Last night (14/05/19) Labour Councillor Jackie Meade was unanimously elected as the new Town Mayor of Folkestone. Jackie was recently re-elected as a Councillor for East Folkestone in local elections which saw Labour gain a majority in Folkestone Town Council and make significant gains elsewhere in Folkestone and Hythe District . In nominating Jackie for the role her fellow councillors praised the work she has done supporting local people and local charities.
The Town Council chose Labour Councillor Ray Field to represent them as Deputy Town Mayor. Jackie and Ray represent the town for the next 12 months, supporting local people and organisations.
Jackie said: “I am incredibly proud and humbled to have been chosen as the mayor of Folkestone this year. I look forward to representing our community and working with my fellow councillors on ideas to revive our high street and show visitors what a vibrant place Folkestone is for everyone, young and old.
I will be raising money for three local charities as well as supporting those I am already involved with. We have a lot of good things planned and I would encourage everyone in the community to get involved.”
