One of Folkestone and Hythe Labour Party’s Youth Officers Matt Reeves (pictured) attended an event to express concerns about how the cuts to library opening hours will affect students.
The drop in session at the local library in Folkestone was about the consultation on library opening hours. Kent County Council is aiming to save £1 million by slashing opening hours at nearly all of the libraries in Folkestone, Hythe and Romney Marsh.
The consultation document controversially uses data from August (when schools, colleges and universities are on holiday) to claim that there is not a demand for the library service in the evening.
We view this as a deliberate attempt to mislead the public and to justify the service cuts. If you want to help protect the library service the consultation is still open – fill out the online questionnaire to let Kent County Council know what you think.
