Folkestone and Hythe Labour Party are pleased to announce that their parliamentary candidate for the upcoming general election is Laura Davison. Laura is hoping to build on her campaign in 2017 when Labour’s vote share doubled from 14% to 28%.
Laura was elected onto Folkestone District Council in May in an evening that saw Labour gain 6 councillors in Folkestone and Hythe District Council and win a majority on Folkestone Town Council.
Laura said: “Since being elected I have been inundated with people approaching me to talk about the problems they are facing – particularly about housing. We just don’t have enough council housing. We have people who are stuck in completely unsuitable accommodation. We have people facing eviction from private rented accommodation. Labour will do things differently. Labour will deliver quality, genuinely affordable homes for the many – building one million over ten years. We will kick-start a new council house building programme and revolutionise the private rental sector with rent controls and the end of no-fault evictions.”
Local resident, Claire Penter said: “I’m voting for Laura because she is always there supporting residents and showing how much she cares for our town. During the GP crisis she was there to offer help when our current MP was nowhere to be seen. Whether it is camping out to raise money for homeless charities or collecting for the food banks, there’s countless ways she shows that she is one of us.”
Labour has a plan to rebuild Britain after a decade of Tory cuts. We will protect the planet for future generations, with our Green New Deal. We will get Brexit sorted by giving people the final say. We will scrap Universal Credit and ensure disabled people are given the support they need. We will protect the NHS, making sure it is not for sale in any trade deal. We will bring public services back into public hands renationalising water and rail. We will create a National Education Service, ensuring that education is available to everyone at whatever stage of their life they need it. We will end in work poverty, giving people a real living wage of at least £10 an hour. Only Labour will make the real change that our country needs.
