In the Folkestone Herald yesterday (18/04/19) an article claimed that Labour have “not made their stance clear” on the developments. Let us be perfectly clear:
Labour are opposed to the plans for Princes Parade and Otterpool Park. A Labour Council will scrap the plans for both projects immediately.
On March 11th 2017 a unanimous motion was passed by Folkestone and Hythe Labour Party:
“While acknowledging the rapid rise in homelessness and the desperate need for low cost/ low rental accommodation, Folkestone and Hythe Labour Party nonetheless condemn the proposed development of Princes Parade and the old Folkestone Racecourse and surrounding lands (Otterpool Garden Town).”
Labour councillors and members have campaigned, protested and marched against (see featured image) these plans. Our Labour Councillor in Hythe has consistently voted against the Princes Parade development.
The project will harm our wildlife, concerns have been raised by The Environment Agency and crucially it lacks community support.
The scale of the Otterpool plans go well beyond our local housing needs and the necessary infrastructure to support the development is not in place.
Labour will do things differently.
Labour will have different priorities for development. We will build new, good quality council houses to end our housing crisis and give local people a secure home.
Labour will do things differently. Elect local councillors who will listen to the local community on May 2nd.
Vote Local, Vote Labour.
