Saturday 24th February Flash Mob: One Billion Rising

One Billion Rising is a worldwide movement against domestic violence of all kinds, which is holding events on or around 14th February and this year up to International Women’s Day on 8th March.  Its aim is to raise awareness, take the fight against domestic violence onto the streets in a fun and engaging way.

In 2013, led by Pam Mudge-Wood, a number of people held a singing flash mob in Deal High Street, to the puzzlement of local shoppers. Pam is ready to lead us again, this time in Dover, on 24th February.

Details of event:

Come along, join our flash mob and help us make a big noise in Dover.

10:15 –  We will have a short rehearsal in Oddfellows Hall. Then, we will walk, sing, hand out leaflets, and when we are finished we will head to a local establishment to enjoy a warming drink. If you really aren’t up for singing please still come as we need people to hand out our leaflets.

This is not an event just for women members – Domestic violence is an issue for all of us.

Below are the songs we aim to sing.  Click on them to listen on Youtube and get a bit of practice!

Something Inside So Strong, Labi Siffre

Lean on Me, Bill Withers

I am Woman, Helen Reddy

You’re the Voice, Andy Qunta, Chris Thompson, Maggie Ryder and Keith Reid

The event is organised by Dover and Deal Women’s Officers.  Please support our neighbouring constituency and come along.
